Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (AP) — On Tuesday, Tiger Woods underwent a less invasive procedure for his torn Achilles tendon. This means he won’t be participating in the Masters and raises uncertainty about whether he’ll be able to compete in any remaining majors this year.

Without mentioning how lengthy his absence would be or providing further information apart from confirming that the procedure was successful.
“As I intensified my training and practice sessions at home, I experienced severe pain in my left Achilles tendon, which turned out to be ruptured,” Woods stated.
He mentioned that he underwent a minimally invasive procedure to repair his torn Achilles tendon, which the surgeon reported as being successful. These types of operations typically require smaller cuts, leading to faster healing times. However, most patients usually need about a month before they’re able to bear weight on their affected foot again.
Bernhard Langer, who has won the Masters twice, suffered from a torn Achilles tendon last year which sidelined him for three months.
Dr. Charlton Stucken from the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach conducted the operation and stated in his update, “The procedure went well, and we anticipate a complete recovery.”
The Masters takes place from April 10 to April 13.

Last September, Woods underwent his sixth back operation. Previously, he experienced problems with his Achilles tendon, particularly damaging the left one during a shot at the Masters due to an uneven posture. In 2011, he mentioned the issue with his left Achilles tendon as the reason for pulling out of The Players Championship; this kept him sidelined for about two months.
In February 2021, Woods severely injured his right leg and ankle in a car accident near Los Angeles.
