Moskowitz Hits Back: GOP’s ‘Mean Tweets’ Ahead of Crucial CR Vote

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) recounted some of the harsh comments tweeted by Republican legislators regarding continuing resolutions (CR) prior to Tuesday’s vote.

“It’s CR day on Capitol Hill, and what’s happening with the Republicans? I mean, when President Trump posts a tweet asking for support, everyone immediately changes their stance,” said Moskowitz.

“You know what? Allow me to read some harsh tweets about your feelings towards CRs when you’re in the minority,” he went on.

Starting from January 2024, Representative Chip Roy (R-Texas) remarked that it felt like “Groundhog Day” in the House as the chamber kept approving expenditures beyond the nation’s means.

Moskowitz mentioned another colleague stating, “Should Congress increase the debt limit, approve a continuing resolution, and push through an omnibus bill, then no member of Congress ought to get paid.” This comment was referencing a January 2024 social media post by Representative Eli Crane (R-Ariz.). “This puts all of you in an uncomfortable position. How many among you will return your salaries?”

Moskowitz’s comments come as legislators rush towards a government funding deadline.

House Republicans
advanced their bill
on Tuesday to prevent a government closure by week’s end, setting the stage for a concluding vote on the bill later that day.

The legislation’s fate remains uncertain due to lack of guaranteed support, particularly since Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) insists he won’t back the bill. Several other Republicans remain noncommittal despite VP Vance endorsing it.

To remove Massie after he stated his lack of support for the funding bill.

Democratic figures like Moskowitz are anticipated to reject the legislation in significant numbers due to their reservations regarding the reductions outlined in the bill.

Although the legislation may get approved in the House, its prospects in the Senate are uncertain since it requires 60 votes, with the Republican Party needing support from at least eight Democratic senators to proceed.

Several Democratic senators are worried that if they reject the accord it

under the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s Department of Administrative Reform.

Before the vote, Moskowitz confronted his Republican counterparts, criticizing them harshly for acting according to Trump’s desires.

“Listen, return to your families, hand in your voting cards, and pass the gavel to Trump since this is what’s happened to your whole party. There’s no need for you to stay,” he stated. “Whenever he asks you to do something, you obey immediately.”
