Gov. Hochul Advocates for Cellphone-Free Schools Across New York

Governor Kathy Hochul is urging state legislators to establish cell phone-free zones throughout New York’s educational institutions.

Hochul states that this bill will enhance kids’ mental well-being and their learning environment.

Hochul stated, “The innocence of childhood has been taken away by cellphones that dominate every aspect of life.” This issue has been the main concern for quite some time, and it must come to an end. We cannot keep allowing practices within our state that harm the mental well-being of our children. It’s time to free our youngsters from this grip. Let’s make it happen.”

The proposal entails prohibiting the unauthorized use of smartphones and other internet-connected gadgets on school premises in K-12 institutions throughout the full school day.

The rule against cellphones is enforced during lunchtime and study hall.

This plan enables educational institutions to create their own cell phone storage methods and offers financial support to acquire such solutions.

Certain state lawmakers are trying to dilute Hochul’s proposal.

They advocate for a cell phone-free setting when students are in class, but this does not apply during lunchtime or recess.
