Caldwell and West Caldwell Split on $36.3 Million School Referendum Vote

Voters in Caldwell and West Caldwell delivered a divided verdict in Tuesday’s special election.
Two bond measures totaling $36.3 million
for initiatives that would upgrade the district’s deteriorating school facilities and resources.

Question 1, which sought $22,875,272 in bonds for the district’s elementary schools, was approved with an overwhelming majority based on preliminary results. Conversely, Question 2, aiming for $13,418,146 in bonds for upgrading the high school facilities and building a new sports complex, was rejected by a significant margin.

Aside from the $23 million in bond money, projects aimed at improving elementary schools within the district—which educates students from Caldwell and West Caldwell—would receive an additional boost of around $9.15 million from state funding should this ballot measure pass, as stated on the website.
